Seville’s Aquarium: activities in Seville
14 octubre, 2014
Since last September the 30th, Seville has a new touristic attraction at the pier of the Guadalquivir River: Seville’s Aquarium. This is a project that intends to bring the aquatic world closer to the population by going on a cruise through fluvial and marine habitats where we will see the species and landscapes the water harbours.
Our trip will bring us to Magallanes’ time, who was involved into the first European expedition which went on a cruise around the world, and then relieved by the captain Juan Sebastián Elcano after he died. This expedition set sail precisely from Seville’s Port in August 1519, so today this aquarium pays tribute with an exhibition of the flora and fauna that the members of the expedition encountered throughout their long trip.
There are more than 400 species distributed on 31 thematic tanks of a 600-metre long tour through the different landscapes reproduced according to the itinerary of that expedition. Fresh and salt water fishes, turtles, octopus, coral reefs and sharks —the principal attraction for excellence that we will find in one of the biggest tanks in Spain which measures 9 metres depth.
Seville’s Aquarium also offers a wide variety of programmed activities for all kind of public —school groups, families, university students— with educational and consciousness-raising activities introduced by specialists on this subject. Moreover, an open day will take place every first Wednesday in the month at Seville’s Aquarium from 5:30 pm for those teachers and education professionals who would like to gain a thorough understanding of the resources the Aquarium provides them with.
One of the most attractive activities proposed by the Aquarium is the ‘Night with sharks’, where the public get immersed in the world of this specie through many games and practices adapted to the different levels and ages, since 10 pm to 8 am on the following day.
In Genteel Home we invite all those who would like to enjoy their holidays in Seville to discover the Aquarium, a great alternative for your touristic planning in the city.
